Early booking is particularly important if your wedding is over the summer which is the busiest time and if you have a special cake in mind. It’s a good idea to book your cake maker even if you haven’t finalized the details, you can firm up details a little closer to the time. Fruit cake can take around three months to mature but sponge cakes can generally be made at shorter notice.

Most cake makers will require a deposit to secure the booking on your date. This varies between cake makers but is usually between one third and half the cost of the cake with the remainder payable nearer the time.
