A custom wedding cake specialist is not the only option for your cake; your shortlist might include a member of your family or a friend or commercial bakery. Alternatively some high street stores offer wedding cakes that you could customize with flowers or by adding wedding cake jewelry for example.

Make a short list of cake makers in your area or near to your wedding venue. Our directory is an ideal place to find cake makers near you or you can try national bridal magazines or bridal fairs. Ask friends and family for their recommendations alternatively your wedding venue may be able to give names of cake makers they have worked with. Make a list of two or three wedding cake makers to visit.

Schedule a tasting with your short listed cake makers - It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it! Your cake should taste as good as it looks. This is a good opportunity to check out which cake maker will be able to turn your wedding cake dreams into a delicious reality!

Wedding Cake - 3 to 6 months before your wedding

Book your Wedding Cake - We recommend that you order your cake as far in advance as possible, ideally book your cake at least 3 to 6 months in advance. Early booking is particularly important if your wedding is over the summer which is the busiest time and if you have a special cake in mind. It’s a good idea to book your cake maker even if you haven’t finalized the details, you can firm up details a little closer to the time. Fruit cake can take around three months to mature but sponge cakes can generally be made at shorter notice.

Most cake makers will require a deposit to secure the booking on your date. This varies between cake makers but is usually between one third and half the cost of the cake with the remainder payable nearer the time.
